Greene Playground A Go

GREENE – In mid 2010 when an existing Greene Ball Flats playground – an aged wood structure that had surpassed its serviceable life – was taken down, few knew what would become of the spot where many from the Greene community spent long summer days playing and growing.

The Ball Flats, home to several of Greene's annual activities such as the Labor Day Picnic and Apple Festival, is a place where children and families could go to get some well-needed fresh air, exercise and build memories.

Despite efforts to maintain the facilities, the existing playground had to be removed in 2010 due to deterioration and insurance liability.

A group of residents would eventually spearhead a local committee aimed at resurrecting the presence of a play structure for the benefit of present and future generations of Greene area residents.
