Chenango River Theatre presents Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash

GREENE – Ring of Fire:The Music of Johnny Cash, opens August 8 at the Chenango River Theatre and will run through September 1 at 991 state Highway 12, Greene. The show is a living portrait of Johnny Cash, the Man in Black, and features the iconic songbook of Cash in a unique musical about love and faith, rowdiness and redemption, struggle and success, and home and family.

The Chenango River Theatre is one of the first theatres in the country to present the new version of this show, co-produced by the Raymond Corporation. The new version was created this spring at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, a company well known for making “jukebox musicals” that have gone on to receive critical success.

The performance is slated to run Thursdays through Saturdays precisely at 7:30 p.m. The format of the venue does not allow for late seating, as the late parties would have to walk directly across the stage, said Bill Lelbach, Artistic & Managing Director at the theatre. Sunday’s matinee performances begins at 2 p.m.

More than two dozen of Cash’s classic hits paint a musical portrait of The Man in Black - tunes including “Ring of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Man in Black,” “Daddy Sang Bass,” “Five Feet High and Rising,” and “I’ve Been Everywhere.”

The show claims to “lift your heart and stir your soul” in a celebratory tribute to one of the 20th century’s most influential singer-songwriters.
