Cyclones Sweep Playoff Games, Head To League Championships

The Norwich Cyclones’ A, B, and C teams swept Tri-Valley League Pop Warner playoff games last weekend to advance to the league championships this weekend.

The Cyclones A team downed Oneida 18-0 Saturday in Oneida, and advanced to the league finals against Camden.

The Cyclones took the opening kickoff and drove to the Oneida 16 only to be held on downs. On the third ensuing defensive down, Paden Burlison intercepted an Oneida pass and raced 10 yards for Norwich’s first score.

Cole Rifanburg had a four-yard TD run just before the half making it 12-0. Carter Hubbard finished the scoring on a one-yard TD plunge in the third quarter.

Nick Stirone rushed for 84 yards to lead the Cyclones with Rifanburg adding 59 to pace the Cyclones offense.

Johnathan Heggie and Alex Wehrli led the stiff Cyclones defense. Hubbard, Burlison with a fumble recovery, and Rifanburg with an interception – along with Jacob Franklin, Stirone and the entire defensive squad – held Oneida to four first downs.
