Severe storms lead to widespread power outages, possible tornado

NORWICH A series of severe storms across the county Sunday night and early Monday morning led to thousands of residents losing power and a possible tornado in the Sidney area, in nearby Delaware County.

According to the City of Norwich Emergency Management Office and EMO officer A. Wesley Jones, nearly 3,000 NYSEG customers were without power in the towns of Plymouth and Norwich last night, as well as adjoining townships. A reported transformer explosion at approximately 7:17 p.m. is believed to be the cause of the outages, said Jones.
