Schools of the Past: The Village Schools – Guilford Central School Part 7

The history of Guilford Central School without a look at the students who passed through those halls, some to even higher education, others to the military, still others to continue in their father’s footsteps, the list goes on. Paying tribute to these early students is timely as they were all students in the old Union School.



The following is excerpts from Guilford dated Wednesday - November 12,1930:

“The following is a list of the high averages, but also of the pupils who have been exempt from specified subjects because of an average of 85% and no absence, or 90% with one absence.

Lucille Ryan - elementary business training - physical geography - English IVth year - geometry and commercial arithmetic.

Dorothy Legan - English - 3 yr. geometry, theory, French 2 and Latin 2.

Patricia McPherson - Physical geography, Latin 3, History 3 & Elementary business training.

The above were exempt from all their subjects!

Carmel Crispel - English 3, Music, Physical Geography, Latin 3

Lillian Mellon - English 3, History A, English 3 & Theory

Dorothy Randall -Geometry, History A, English 3 & Theory

Henry Shapley - History C, Commercial Arithmetic, English 4

Karl Pfeil - History C

Florence Place - English 3, Geometry, History A, French 2
