County agrees to accept Broome landfill waste

NORWICH Chenango County lawmakers adopted an amendment to county law that would permit storm debris from Broome County to be disposed at the Pharsalia Landfill.



The imported solid waste would carry a tipping fee that is comparable to what local industries that exceed a specified threshold normally pay, but less than the standard price per ton.

Broome County had requested permission to transport between 10-15,000 tons of storm debris over a period of three months to the landfill. Currently, local law prohibits the importing of solid waste.
