Arts Council exhibit, concert highlight hometown talent

NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts announces the return of two Norwich artists for a weekend of visual and performing arts called “Home is Where the Art Is.”

Friday will showcase painter and sculptor Edmond Caputo in the opening of a month-long exhibit of his works in the Mariea Brown & Raymond Loft Galleries, and on Saturday the second concert of the CCCA Chamber Series will present Megan Higley Phillips in an evening of American and Romantic works for the piano.

Edmond Caputo was born in 1985 in Norwich, and raised nearby on Chenango Lake. He has studied at the State University of New York at Brockport and is currently finishing his first year in a Master of Fine Arts program at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Caputo is a sculptor and painter who infuses his artwork with bold and vivid colors. His work deals with a combination of abstract and figurative representations of life and its journey. His artwork has been exhibited at numerous locations, such as the home of the President at RIT; State of the Art Gallery, Ithaca; and the Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Rochester. Caputo has received awards for his artwork, including “Most Adventurous Concept” at the Kismet Exhibit at SUNY Brockport and “Best in Show” at the Members’ Exhibit at the Chenango County Council of the Arts.
