Schools of the Past: Greene District 13, Harbor District

Reverting back to the article of October 27, 2010 the history of District #3 - Harbor District was related. At that time it was written that #3 lasted until 1867 when it became District #13 - Harbor District and would continue to service until 1953. Length wise in the years of history, this school was in operation a total of 123 years. The history of #3 was related and it was written that the history of #13 would be at a later date. As with serials, etc. to be continued. At this time the history continues.



In the history of the Greene, where in Greene and Lisle with the school site being bordered by lands owned by Johnathan English, Daniel Terwilliger, Barnet Johnson, David Smith and Uriah Dunn. As I have written previously, yet another map research project, time permitting!

The district #3 or #13 would see the district lines changed many times and this writer will quote directly Mrs. Folsomís research as follows: ď1834- part of #2 Greene and Oxford which lies south of lands occupied by Eli Haynes from #2 to #3 (Greene.) 1834 - Lot 62/3T of Linas Chasse (?) from #2 to #3 1836 - All that part of #7 lying in Greene to #3,1836 - Farm of David Strickland (north part of Lot 50/T74 in Barker from #13 to #3 (apparently #13 was in Town of Barker), 1837 - new district #13 formed from lots 61-62-65/4T in #11 (Chenango-Barker- Greene), 1839 -new district #1 formed parts of #9 (Greene/Coventry) and #13 (lots 29-30- 31/TM). 1841 - Farm of Joseph Tillotson (south of Harry Tyler) from #3 to #1,1845 - David Stricklandís farm from #3 (Brisben) to #13 (Greene & Brisben), 1846 - acres of land occupied by Alvan Stone in #20 to #13,1846 - farm of Urias Decker from #6 to #13 (Greene & Brisben), 1866 - #13 becomes #23 (Coventryville). 1901 - District #25 (future article) dissolved - all property to be sold at auction and proceeds of same divided between #8 Smithville and #13 of Greene. 1901 again-to #13-south of above along west line of J. Birdlebough and Tillotson to north line of Hollenbeck Brothers, west to Edgar Race.Ē
