Greene 1, Elmira Notre Dame 0
ELMIRA – Entering the postseason in a mini-slump, the Trojans have regrouped to play some of their best softball of the season.
Greene advanced to the Section IV, Class C finals on Saturday beating top-seeded Elmira Notre Dame on the Crusaders’ home diamond.
“If you can go on the road and win 1-0 in the playoffs, you have to feel good about that,” said Greene coach Rick Smith.
Greene (18-4) lost its last regular-season game to B-G, then fell to Afton in the Midstate Athletic Conference championship to enter the Section IV playoffs on a two-game losing streak. That came on the heels of a 15-game winning streak in which the Trojans did not drop a game over a six-week period. “Those two games, we made nine errors, now we’re getting back to where we want to be at the right time,” Smith said, who noted it was the second straight error-free game for his club. “Our defense was incredible today. Every player in the infield made a play, and Becca (Hanrahan, Greene pitcher) was on. She spotted the ball great.”
