SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville head coach Brian Hicks kept his promise Tuesday night after the Marauders completed an unbeaten season in Center State Conference play.

Hicks told his team earlier in the season that he would allow the players to shave his head and trademark mustache if it completed an unbeaten league season.

“If this is all I have to do to win a league championship, I would do this every day,” Hicks said after getting his locks and ‘stache shorn. “Once they went 5-0 the first time through the league, I think it was their main goal to finish unbeaten.”

S-E (10-0, 15-3), winners of 12 straight games, scored all of its runs over the first three innings to aid winning pitcher Caleb Brown. Brown hit a two-run double to start a four-run second inning. Steve Buddenhagen followed with an RBI double, and Jake Sampson completed the inning with an RBI single.

Mike Doscher hit a two-run double in the third. Joe Moses, who bats seventh in the lineup, went 3-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a double.

Brown pitched four innings of one-hit ball for his eighth win, and Phil Price came on to hurl three-innings of one-hit relief.

The Marauders host Hamilton Friday.
