Greene 5, Norwich 1
OXFORD – Recently annointed as the number 14 team in the state among Class C schools, Greene received a five-goal effort from standout senior Megan McDermott to advance to the finals of the Oxford Tournament.
McDermott scored her first goal with 9:05 left in the first half, and tallied just 65 seconds later for the two-goal halftime lead.
“They had their defense moved up, and our girls did a nice job of pushing the ball through to Megan,” said Greene coach Randy Smith. “Megan was able to go one-on-one with their goalie (Tatyana Ithier) a few times. (Ithier) stopped a couple of them, but you can’t give Megan that many opportunities.”
The five-goal game was a career-high for McDermott, who has several hat tricks over her varsity career.
Norwich’s Elisha Eddy broke up the shutout with a penalty kick. The Tornado face G-MU Saturday evening in the consolation game, while Greene plays Oxford for title immediately after that matchup.

Oxford 4, G-MU 1
OXFORD – Oxford’s offense jelled in the second half, and the Blackhawks advanced to the finals of their own tournament.
Amanda Minihan moved up from her defensive position to score for the Blackhawks at 30:22. Minihan touched a shot that deflected just inside the left post following a Haley Witchella throw-in. “We had some good chances in the first half, and I think we were able to settle down,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “It’s our tournament and we wanted to win. Maybe we pressed early.”
Witchella had two goals for Oxford, who play Greene Saturday in the finals at 7 p.m.
Miranda Hill tallied for the Raiders. G-MU faces Norwich in the consolation game on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Amanda Brown added Oxford’s other goal.

BAINBRIDGE – Greene took advantage of a B-G foul in the penalty box converting the opening goal two minutes into play in a shutout victory Thursday.
Mark Day was the go-to guy to convert the penalty kick. Ryan Ludwig’s first half tally made it a two-goal lead, and Dave Fors along with Alex Driscoll netted goals in the second half. “Giving up that early goal hurt us,” said B-G coach Pete Feltham. “I felt our goalie (Jeremy Gray) played an outstanding game. I can’t fault him on any of the goals; they were all quality shots by Greene.”
B-G (7-9-1) hosts Sidney Saturday at 6 p.m.
