Greene 3, Vestal 1
GREENE – Greene moved toward a STAC division title with its second victory over Vestal Thursday afternoon.
With Vestal pressuring for the tying goal, the Trojans (10-1) took advantage of a Vestal turnover. A send-in pass on a penalty corner skipped through the penalty circle putting Greene on the attack. Amy David sent Erin Smith a pass into the Vestal circle, and Smith cashed in with a pivotal insurance tally at 3:45 of the second half. “At that point, it was a huge turnaround because Vestal was coming on,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “Our kids responded and executed to a ‘tee.’”
Smith was involved in the Trojans’ first two goals to help build a 2-0 lead. Smith set up Christine Conroe’s goal at 18:32 of the first half, and then sent a cross to Andrea Day for the two-goal lead at 20:19 of the second period.
Vestal pared the Greene lead at 11:45 of the second half on a penalty stroke.
Greene plays at Rome today in the first round of the Rome Tournament.

Greene 2, Oxford 1
OXFORD – Oxford dropped its sixth one-goal loss this season when Greene’s Liz Wentlent tallied with 1:30 left in the game.
Wentlent picked up a loose ball after a cornerkick, and amid a cluster of players, found the Oxford net. “Going up against Greene, who is in first place in the MAC, I thought we played well and we played hard all 80 minutes,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “I don’t think our record (3-8) reflects our play on the field.”
Wentlent had a first-half goal for the Trojans, and Oxford tied the game with a minute left in the period on Ginny Burdick’s goal.
Oxford plays at state-ranked Charlotte Valley today.
