Oxford girls get first-ever win over Unatego

OXFORD – While Unatego's program has taken a step back this season, Oxford will take the breakthrough win over the Spartans.

Haley Witchella scored both goals for Oxford, the latter in the second half assisted by Kelli Whitehill for the first Blackhawks win over Unatego in the program's history. "We played well at the start and we were communicating and passing well," said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. "We played with intensity the whole game and we've been in every game. We know going into the second time around (in league play) that we have to play all 80 minutes."

Unadilla Valley 5, Delhi 1

NEW BERLIN – An offensive explosion in the second half propelled Unadilla Valley to a comfortable victory over visiting Delhi Friday.

Knotted at 1-1, Sakura Gysin took Amanda Tumilowicz’s cross from the right side at the left post, and tucked the ball away 9:03 into the second half. Sam Tumilowicz, Amanda Tumilowicz, Leslie Barnes piled on the goals in the best offensive half of UV’s season. “Our scoring was spread out and all of our goals had assists,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. The defense did an excellent job changing fields and getting the offense the ball. It was well-played and a total team effort.”

UV’s Kara Collins scored off a header in the first half getting a pass from Carly Lorence.

GREENE – Greene took command in the first half building a 3-1 lead en route to win over the Bobcats Friday.

Megan McDermott scored twice to give her five goals over the last two games, and April Small also tallied twice in the victory.

Boys’ Soccer

Walton 2, Oxford 0

WALTON - Walton scored a surprising shutout victory handing the Blackhawks (7-3) their third loss of the season Saturday.

Trent Wood added an insurance goal in the second half for the Warriors to put the game out of reach. "We didn't play our best game and we hope we can turn it around quickly," said Oxford coach Jon Rogers.

Greene 2, Sidney 1

GREENE – Sidney hung close under sloppy field conditions until the Trojans' Mark Day delivered the game-winner.

Day scored 10 minutes into the second half putting Greene (8-1) ahead for good. "We had a hard time converting inside their defensive third, and the conditions were a factor," said Greene coach Rick Tallman. "Sidney did play us stronger defensively."

Alex Driscoll scored for Greene in the first half.

Seton Catholic Central 4, Norwich 3

NORWICH – In a game of topsy turvy momentum, Seton Catholic Central rallied with two goals in the second half to prevail Friday afternoon at Norwich.

Ivan Jones scored unassisted at 26:58 to tie the game at 3-3, and Dan Farrell had the game-winner in the 33rd minute. Farrell’s shot came in pinball fashion as the ball was kicked around the goal area, and it made it across the goal line just off the fingertips of Tornado keeper Joe Krug.

Norwich’s Kyle Acenowr put Norwich on the board at 3:26 of the first half – less than two minutes after the Saints took the lead – getting a pass from Jason Woodard. The Tornado led 2-1 at halftime following a Seton own goal.
