‘Huge win’ for Marauders

Sherburne-Earlville 1, Cooperstown 0

SHERBURNE – That Monday’s win over Cooperstown was the biggest win in the program’s history may be a point of contention. What is indisputable is the newly-elevated status of a team that won just one game last season.

“Cooperstown has been the standard in our league, and this is a huge step for us,” said S-E assistant coach Nigel Seddon, who said it was the first win over Cooperstown since joining Section III earlier this decade. “I think our program has a good base on the lower levels, and the success is catching on.”

Moving across from the right to the left of the 18-yard box, S-E’s Brianna Vibbard took a pass from the midfield, dribbled and fired a shot into the far right post for the game-winner seven minutes into the second half. It was Vibbard’s team-high ninth goal of the season.

The Marauders (3-1, 4-3-1) are among the Center State Conference division leaders, and the loss was the first in league play this season for Cooperstown.

S-E hosts Mount Markham Wednesday.
