Smyrna Citizenís Band celebrates 90 years

SMYRNA Ė After 90 years, a lot of things have changed in the Town of Smyrna. Many of the farms that lined the landscape are gone, and many of the buildings that once stood are no more, but the Smyrna Citizenís Band continues to entertain those in the area with their summer concert series.

The Smyrna Citizenís Band was started in 1918. Originally called the Marshall Band, the group originated with the Coye family, and relatives of the Coyes still play in the band to this day.

Band member Connie Wright, whose maiden name was Coye, said her great grandfather and grandfather Clayton and Kenneth Coye started the band, and quite a few of her relatives have participated over the years.
