Case resigns from Greene post

GREENE – Bill Case, the winningest girls’ basketball coach in Chenango County history, announced his resignation from the Greene Trojans varsity team this week after telling his returning players.

Case, who led Greene team to a MAC league championship and to the Section IV, Class B semifinals in 2008, racked up 427 career wins over 27 seasons. He compiled five Section IV titles, and hordes of division and league accolades. He has placed 16 players on the All-Metro team during his career, more than any other school in Section IV, and nearly twice that many players on the all-Chenango County team.

“I was very close with some of these girls (this year), and some of them are having a hard time with it,” Case said. “I’m having a hard time with it.”

Case served five years at Whitney Point High School as it head girls’ basketball coach, and took over the head girls’ basketball position at Greene in 1986. His second season he led Greene to a Class C sectional title, and his teams won four straight sectional championships from 1993-1996.
