NORWICH – As June nears, work is busily underway for the 2008 Dairy Day Celebration, to be held on Saturday, June 21, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. This year promises to be the most exciting yet!
The day will begin with the second annual “Milk Run,” a 3K race beginning and ending at the fairgrounds. The 9a.m. race will be run through Norwich and will finish with a celebratory serving of chocolate milk. Scientific studies have been completed which find that drinking chocolate milk during workouts helps refuel tired muscles after strenuous exercise and can enable athletes to exercise at a high intensity during subsequent workouts. New this year - a "Bake It With Dairy" baking contest. This is the perfect opportunity to show off your baking skills while incorporating healthy dairy products into some delicious treats! There will be two age divisions for aspiring chefs to participate in: Adult and Youth. One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen in each division by a panel of judges, with first, second, and third place also being named. Grand Prize Winners will each receive $50 plus a Dairy Gift Basket full of dairy goodies! Categories will include: cookies, yeast or quick breads, and cakes.
