School board seats up for grabs Tuesday

Chenango County’s voters head to the polls Tuesday to vote on school budgets and to determine which candidates will become members of the school board.

School boards are responsible for making many decisions in each district from budget expenditures and curriculum offerings to personnel and materials needs. They meet once or twice a month.

• Afton: One available seat on the board, but no nominee.

• Bainbridge-Guilford: Two seats available with incumbent Jeanne Shields and newcomer Howard Lockhart on the ballot.

• Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton: Three incumbents, Harold “Manny” Button, Lisa Carkuff and Jerry Theis, will run for three available seats.
