One Rite Aid closes

NORWICH – More than ten months after the sale of the Eckerd chain of drug stores to the Rite Aid Corporation, one of the two Rite Aids located on North Broad Street in Norwich has closed.

The original Rite Aid, located at 90 North Broad St. in Norwich, held its last day of business on Wednesday, April 9. The store manager explained that today the employees will be packing up the inventory and transitioning it to the second Rite Aid location – the former Eckerd Pharmacy – at 82 North Broad.

Personally, I prefer the location that has been closed. However, it is probably a building more suited to a greater variety of uses than the former Eckerd facility which has been retained as the sole Rite-Aid. Let's hope that some entrepreneur or business organization may be able to utilize it in a manner appropriate to the needs of the City.
