New on DVD

Alvin and the Chipmunks - The hit cartoon characters come back for their first live action movie. Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is a great songwriter who just can’t seem to catch a break. When he stands outside the latest record company that has given him his latest rejection, he hears a sound that makes check things out. They say big things come in small packages. When he meets Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Simon (Jesse McCartney), Dave may have found what he needs to break into the music business. There is just one small problem. The little trio happen to be chipmunks. Oh, well. Dave always liked a challenge. Can he make these little guys and make them the “American Idols” they could be? Another kids’ favorite is Hannah Montana. Reports have just confirmed that Miley Cyrus begins work on the “Hannah Montana” movie this summer.

Sweeney Todd (The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) - Johnny Depp and Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands) team up again to bring an Academy Award nominated film to the big screen based on the Broadway play. Depp takes a break from Captain Jack and tries something he has never done before: He sings. When Sweeney is sent to jail for a crime he didn’t commit, he spends years in prison. While in prison, he finds out that his wife and daughter have passed away. Now all he has is revenge to keep him going and decides to go after those responsible for sending him to prison. After Mr. Todd gets out of prison, he decides to open a Barber shop. The only problem is those who get their haircuts there have a knack for disappearing. Aided by his assistant Nellie (Helena Bonham Carter), What will Sweeney do next? Depp is currently working on a new film called “Public Enemies” and should be out later this year.
