Judge won't reduce Story's bail

NORWICH – A man accused of murdering his friend in Sherburne last month was arraigned for a second time Friday, following a Chenango County grand jury indictment.

Joshua T. Story was arraigned in front of Judge Kevin M. Dowd on second degree murder and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon charges for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of 24-year-old Kallin Richards of New Berlin.

Following his arraignment, Story’s attorney, Public Defender Alan E. Gordon, made the request that the defendant’s bail be reduced from the $50,000 as originally set.

District Attorney Joseph M. McBride objected to the reduction and said Story should be held without bail, citing him as a possible flight risk.

“This man is a short-term resident of Chenango County and has every reason to flee,” said McBride. Story’s immediate family lives outside the state. The sentence could carry a life-term. Dowd kept the bail set at $50,000.
