Final drawings, timeline completed for county’s West Park Place offices

NORWICH – The blueprints for Chenango County’s estimated $2.3 million West Park Place Office project are expected to go out to bid in three weeks, kicking off what architects say is an “aggressive, but possible” Christmas completion date.

Members of Ithaca-based John Snyder Architects presented a timeline and list of drawings to the Agriculture, Buildings & Grounds Committee Wednesday. After discussion, the group charged the Finance Committee to finalize costs and bid projections by the end of the month.

The Chenango County Department of Social Services will occupy the two City of Norwich buildings, formerly known as the jail and sheriff’s office. Lawmakers have been working on the project since the new Public Safety Facility on Upper Ravine Road in Norwich was occupied two years ago.

Demolition of the 103-year old cell block that joins the two structures, delayed from a previous target date last August, is now scheduled May 21. The sidewalk in front of the buildings will be closed to pedestrians at that time.
