NBT reportedly suing sports team for $10.8 million in unpaid loans

NORWICH – According to several newspaper and television reports, NBT Bancorp Inc. has filed a lawsuit against a professional soccer team in Rochester seeking nearly $11 million in unpaid loans.

According to the Democrat & Chronicle and WHEC-TV in Rochester, the Rochester Rhinos got several loans from the NBT dating back to 2004, and stopped paying the money back last summer.

NBT Vice President and Marketing Director Florence Doller said Thursday she was unable to comment on the lawsuit.

In a statement earlier this week announcing NBT’s 4th quarter earnings, the bank indicated it saw a $10 million increase in its loan and lease loss provisions, adding that $8.6 million of that was “related to one large commercial loan.” It did not mention the team or the lawsuit, however.
