Gas station robbed, clerk threatened

NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday for allegedly stealing an 18-pack of beer from a local gas station and threatening to shoot the clerk.

Deputies, with back-up from the Norwich Police Department, responded to the call at about 1 a.m., at the Valero gas station in the Town of Norwich.

The suspect, Bernie J. Infante, 31, was charged with third degree robbery (D felony).

“We arrested the suspect the following late morning, early afternoon, and at that time he had no weapon on him, but we can’t confirm or deny he didn’t at the time of the robbery,” said Detective Sgt. Richard Cobb of the Sheriff’s Office.
