UNION SPRINGS – Heeding the chants of “we believe in you” from the Oxford faithful, the Blackhawks’ improbable playoff run in the Class C playoffs continued on a beeline to the sectional finals after defeating Union Springs in the semifinals Tuesday afternoon.

Oxford, the lowest seed at the start of the 10-team tournament, scored the game’s only two goals in the final 10:46 of play. And the win comes despite getting outshot 19-7. “It’s all about the finishing,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle, whose team had just three wins until the final week of the regular season. “Our defense did an excellent job getting back. Amanda Nightengale had another good game in goal, and she’s put together a few good games now.”
