Morrisville-Eaton 2, Sherburne-Earlville 1

MORRISVILLE – Morrisville-Eaton all but locked up the Center State division title over defending division champion Sherburne-Earlville with a second win over the Marauders this season.

Courtney Edwards and Chelsea Berne scored goals after penalty corners at 23:32 and 12:34 for the two-goal advantage. S-E’s Karli Harris pared the margin in half with 24 seconds remaining in the opening 30 minutes getting a feed from senior Danielle Green.

“We didn’t play badly, but they were the better team today,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “They did a better job sustaining their offense inside the 25-yard line, and that led to more scoring opportunities.”

The win was a vast improvement over the first meeting, a contest that was S-E’s season-opener. M-E won that contest handily, 5-1. “We are definitely a different team than that first meeting,” Cooman said.

The Marauders (4-2, 8-3-1) play at New York Mills Wednesday.
