Sherburne celebrates 100th anniversary of electric department

SHERBURNE – This weekend the Village of Sherburne will pay tribute to two historic events – the introduction of Sherburne Municipal Electric and the Civil War.

A day of fun and festivities will be held on Saturday as the Village of Sherburne combines activities for Heritage Day and the 100th anniversary of Sherburne Municipal Electric. “We’re looking forward to having a celebration of 100 years of our publicly-owned electric department,” said Village of Sherburne Mayor William Acee.

In addition to the electric department celebration, the village will also be holding its annual heritage day celebration. “This is our third annual Civil War and Heritage Day program at the Sherburne Historic Park, and we are coordinating our events with the village’s 100th anniversary of the electric department,” said Village Historian Rose Wellman.

Civil War re-enactors will be camped out at the historic park all day. Visitors are welcome to stop by and see what life was like. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Episcopal Cemetery, as soldiers will offer a riffle salute to the Civil War soldiers.
