NORWICH – As the ground starts to thaw, Delaware Chenango Madison Otsego (DCMO) BOCES administrators say groundbreaking ceremonies are just around the corner.
In December 2005, voters in the 16 component school districts of the DCMO BOCES approved a facilities proposal to renovate and expand the two BOCES campuses located in Norwich and Sidney Center, a $49 million project.
Since then, BOCES faculty, staff and administrators have worked diligently to get plans drawn and ideas generated for the expansion project.
“Teachers even got to have a say in the design layout of their own classrooms,” said District Superintendent Alan Pole.
On March 21, the state Education Department approved phase one of the project. This phase includes major additions and renovations of most classrooms at the Chenango campus on East River Road, as well as the renovation of four shops at the Harrold Campus in Masonville.
On March 23, the project officially went “out to bid.” A pre-bid meeting was held with interested contractors March 29, with six to seven contractors attending. However, as of that same date, 20 sets of construction documents were sent out to various contractors, indicating there is substantial interest in this project. Bids are to be received by April 26, and on April 30 there will be a meeting to determine what alternates can included in the project.
