Sheriff’s Dept. honors their own

NORWICH – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department held its Annual Award Ceremony last week to honor officers who have put forth outstanding efforts in the past year.

The list of those receiving honors, “includes officers who rose above and beyond the call of duty, even in their personal lives,” said Undersheriff Ernest Cutting.

Deputy Debbie Ives was one of the many who received special commendation for saving a 22-month-old child, along with her husband, Jerry. They pulled him from a pond and began CPR eventually resuscitating the boy, saving his life.

Some officers suffered severe home damage during the floods, yet left their own lives in disarray so they could help others. “They did more than their duty, they just kept coming to work,” said Cutting.
