New Oxford venue to be called ‘Six on the Square’

OXFORD – Ever since the departure of the Night Eagle Cafe, a vacancy has been left in the Village of Oxford. Although the entertainment venue does not yet have a new proprietor, it does have a name: ‘Six on the Square.’

Local residents have taken it upon themselves to orchestrate a community effort in developing a new venue in the former Night Eagle location at 6 Lafayette Park downtown. The group is headed by the owners of the site, David and Mary El Emerson, who have already been approached about renting the space. During the last meeting, the group elected a steering committee for the project. Steering committee member Nancy Morey said, “Currently we are evaluating the legal structure of the organization.” The new venue will most likely be a non-profit cultural organization with close ties to the Chenango County Council of the Arts, said steering committee member Jeanie Petersen.
