GUILFORD – On Nov. 24 and 25, the Class of 1956 of Guilford Central School celebrated their 50th reunion. Those in attendance were; Phyllis (Manwarren) Castle and her husband Millard, Maxine (Randall) Alberici and her husband Gino, Mary (Fellows) Parsons, Ronald Phelps and his wife Pat, Gary Harmon and Reginald Savory. Unable to attend were Harold Wall and Lena (Savory) Brooks. Hobert Soddard (deceased) and William Thomas Higney could not be found.
On Friday evening, everyone attended dinner at the Jericho Tavern in Bainbridge. Tracey Evans, daughter of Hobert Stoddard, and her husband Timothy joined the group at the restaurant. All shared stories about “Hobie” and told what a good friend he was to everyone. A game of Class of ’56 Trivia was played.
On Saturday, Nov. 25, all met at the home of Mary Ellen Parsons in Guilford for lunch and an afternoon of remembering. Mary Ellen provided nostalgic touches of monogrammed glasses for a toast and maroon and white roses graced the table setting, which each school chum got to take home. One of the highlights of the day was a toast given by Ron Phelps in honor of the class. “I enjoy everybody, it was great. I can’t say we’re gonna live another 50 years, ‘cause that’s not gonna happen, so let’s go for fifteen!” A special cake decorated with the photo of the Class of 1956 was set in the foreground with a piece of the maroon velvet curtain, that once graced the stage of the Guilford Central School, in the background.
