NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley won its fourth straight game after an 0-2 start getting 15 points, seven steals and six assists from senior Theresa Lazarus.

Norwich 61, Owego 46
OWEGO – After back-to-back losses, one of which was a disheartening overtime defeat to Johnson City, Norwich rebounded with its biggest win of the season topping defending Section IV Class A champion Owego Tuesday.
“We just played outstanding team basketball at both ends of the floor,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “We played with great passion, great energy, and great focus.”
Abbott credited a defensive scheme devised by assistant coach Tom Collier as a key to the game. The Tornado focused on slowing Owego forward Jack Keough and guard Phil Arnold. Keough was around his season average scoring 19 points, but Arnold was held to four. “We knew Keough would get his points, but we thought we could control Arnold,” Abbott said. “Shane Thompson, Chris Mattingly, and Nate Foote did a good job covering him and shut him down. That was a big key defensively.”
Amos Parry finished with a career-high 24 points, and was often the recipient of a dump-off pass from one of Norwich’s penetrating guards. Senior captain Robert Martin returned to the lineup after missing last Friday’s game due to illness, and scored 16 points.
Norwich led by six after one period and extended the margin in every quarter. Over the final eight minutes, all five of the Tornado baskets were layups, and they were successful on all four foul shot attempts.
