'Tis the season of giving

NORWICH – For the sixth year in a row, The Label Gallery and Roots and Wings will be managing the local U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign. New, unwrapped toys for children from newborn to 12 years can be donated to families in need of assistance during the holiday season.

Dennis Rifanburg and Gail Lawrence, employees at The Label Gallery, are assisting in this year’s campaign. Rifanburg has been a part of the Toys for Tots campaign every year since 2001, and Lawrence has been involved for the last three years. “The best part is being able to help the community, and knowing that you’re going to be able to make someone happy at Christmas time,” Lawrence said.

The Label Gallery has set up toy drop-off locations throughout Chenango County. They will be collecting, counting and sorting the toys, while Roots and Wings, a branch of Catholic Charities, will be distributing them.

The Toys for Tots campaign seems to grow more successful year after year. In the first year, only 200 toys were collected. Since then, the program has been building, and last year, over 3,000 toys were collected for local families.
