OV boosters raise community spirit

OTSELIC – For years, the Otselic Valley Booster Club dwindled down until only one or two members remained, but now the club has resurfaced with new-found ambition. Since the booster club was reestablished last December, its members have been hard at work raising money and community pride.

Booster club president JoAnn Cerasani explained that the club’s first goal upon inception was to put up an outdoor scoreboard. According to Dave Loomis, Otselic Valley’s athletic director, the school had never had an outdoor scoreboard before. “We took guidance from Dave on the things we wanted to upgrade. We just want to make sure the kids can have pride in what they have in the school,” Cerasani said.

With the help of many local donors, the booster club was able to raise enough money to pay for the $5,000 scoreboard. According to Loomis, the scoreboard will serve dual functions, working for both baseball and soccer games. The scoreboard was installed by booster club members and volunteers, and a local business, T&M Graphics donated a banner, listing people the booster club wished to thank. “The kids have been really excited,” Cerasani said. “They think it’s great.”
