Greene 2, Sidney 0

SIDNEY – Greene would just as soon see maroon and white on the opponent’s side every time.

The Trojans, playing under the lights at Sidney, defeated one of the Midstate Athletic Conference’s top teams for the second time this season.

Like the first meeting with the Warriors, the Trojans were outshot, but made efficient used of those attempts. Shelby Averett won a one-on-one battle driving past the defensive sweeper, and hammering in a shot from the right side into the far post. Jessie Bates added a tally later in the first half getting a cross from April Small.

“I would call this an upset; they have been playing extremely well of late,” said Greene coach Randy Smith of the win. “Our kids just seem to get excited playing Sidney. I told them they’re playing Sidney again on Thursday, only they’ll be wearing Unadilla Valley uniforms.”

B-G 3, Walton 1

WALTON – Playing a scrappy Walton team, Jen Patten scored off a direct kick at the 31:30 mark, and after a tying goal by Walton 75 seconds later, Marcie Day added the game-winner for B-G.

Megan Ives scored in the second half for B-G (8-1-1, 10-2-2). “Walton is not a team you can run over, and they’re always dangerous,” said B-G coach George Williams. “They have a small field with not much grass; it’s just a tough place to play. We’re glad to get out of there with a win.”

B-G hosts Delhi Thursday.
