NORWICH – This weekend’s 12th Annual Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival could be the most chock-a-block full two-day event yet. From poetry, to comedy and drama - let alone gallery-quality art, acoustic music and myriad of culinary offerings - the ever-popular harbinger of fall has a wide spectrum of the arts covered.

The comedian Michael Winslow kicks off the weekend at 8 p.m. Friday in the Martin W. Kappel Theatre, 27 W. Main St., Norwich. The Norwich Dollars for Scholars Chapter, host of the event, invites audiences to a pre-show happy hour in Colorscape’s large arts activities tent, located in front of the Chenango County Council of the Arts.

Winslow is perhaps best known for his scene-stealing performances as Officer Larvell Jones in all seven “Police Academy” films. Often called “a vocal gymnast,” the comedian has more than 10,000 sound effects in his repertoire. He is currently in production portraying himself in a movie entitled, “The Great Buck Howard” with Tom Hanks, Colin Hanks and John Malkovich.

“This is a unique opportunity for our organization,” Dollars For Scholars Chairman Chris Frank said. “Be prepared for laughter and amazement as you watch Winslow create a multitude of sound effects and funny noises.”

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They can be purchased from Dollars for Scholars board members, Service Pharmacy in Norwich, or by calling the Chenango County Council of the Arts at 336-ARTS.
