OXFORD – The first of the Oxford Community Band’s Summer Concert Series begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in LaFayette Park.

The Band will be under the new direction ofJessica Freeman, an Oxford Alumnus, who was a guest conductor of band director Jason Place’s last summer. The group (of approximately twenty members, ranging in age from school students to senior citizens), will play moderate grade marches, show tunes, overtures and novelty selections for the enjoyment of the Oxford community.

The Band performs on six Thursday evenings on the parks in Oxford. Thursday concert dates are: July 6, 13, 20 and 27, Aug. 3 and 10. The first four July performances, held in LaFayette Park, are at 7:30 p.m. The last two concerts in August, one held at Washington Park and the other at the Oxford Historical Society’s Depot-Museum, are both at 7 p.m.

One new concert date has been tentatively added to the 2006 calendar: August 17, 7 p.m., at the New York State Veterans’ Home. Check the OxfordNY.com events calendar closer to the concert date or check with interim coordinators, Jane & Lew Ford.
