WAVERLY- The Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ varsity soccer team entered the 2021 section IV class B tournament in survive and advance mode, focused making a deep playoff run. Unfortunately for Norwich, the Waverly Wolverines spoiled those plans on Saturday October 23. The Wolverines marched onto a 4-3 victory over the Tornado.

“It was a good game…our shots just didn’t sink and we let a couple goals slide in that we shouldn’t have” said Norwich Head Coach Heather McShane, “I was proud of the girls for never giving up and playing until the very last second. I was proud of them.”

Tornado senior MacKenzie Hess and junior Sarah Davis provided all of the offense for Norwich. Hess poured in two goals while Davis pitched in another for the NHS ladies.

The Purple Tornado conclude their season with a winning record of 7-5-2.

“We did have a great season and I am so thankful I was given the opportunity to coach such a great group of girls,” said McShane.

McShane reflected on her first year head coaching duties adding, “this was my first year coaching Norwich girls varsity soccer and I learned a lot. I will take those lessons and make next season even better.”
