NORWICH – There will be a fundraiser this Saturday to help a woman battling against bilateral breast cancer, and representatives said they hope the event will help cover medical bills and spread breast cancer awareness.

The event is a spaghetti dinner that will take place from 1 to 4 p.m., on Saturday, at the Norwich VFW located at 61 East Main Street in the City of Norwich.

According to one of the event organizers Christa Mirabito, her younger sister Nicole Mirabito has been battling with cancer for months, which has taken its toll on her finances as well as her health.

Mirabito said her sister was a corrections officer before being taken out for medical leave earlier this year.

“I found out about this in May,” said Mirabito. “What happened was she felt a lump and she wasn’t going to say anything because she had just had a mammogram 6 months earlier. She did end up saying something to her primary doctor - thank goodness.”

“She was ordered to have several tests done, and once they came back positive for cancer everyone was devastated.”
