Outdoor Chenango: More Deer Hunting? Eric Davis

One week ago, the NYSDEC announced that they are accepting public comments on a potential future “Holiday” deer hunt in the Southern Zone of the state. The season would run from December 26 through January 1 and would be archery equipment and muzzleloaders would be the only legal implements. The addition of this season would not occur in 2020. Anyone can submit their comments through November 8. See the NYSDEC website for directions on sending comments either as an email or through the postal service.

I originally heard about this proposal and comment period on a social media page. I have seen it a few different times now, with each person sharing the story having a slightly different outlook on it. Based on what I read in the comments attached to the posts, it struck me that not everyone might understand the wide effect this could have on the rest of the outdoor community. Therefore, I thought I would give people some food for thought when it comes to this proposed season from both sides of the argument.
