DEPOSIT – The Lady Eagles of Deposit/Hancock took an early 23-11 lead in the first quarter and built on that lead in the second to claim a Midstate Athletic Conference victory over the Lady Storm of Unadilla Valley.

In the first quarter, Laycee Drake scored at will for the Eagles as she came away with 12 of the team’s 23. Drake finished the game with 33 points to lead all scores.

“[Laycee] Drake is impressive,” said UV’s head coach Brandi Whitbeck. “She could have scored any time she wanted to.”

The Deposit/Hancock junior pushed the Eagles ahead by 22 at the end of the first half, tallying another 12 points in the second stanza.

Unadilla Valley put 17 points on the scoreboard in the first two quarters of play and came back in the second half to outscore the home team 29-24 but the damage was done in the first 16 minutes by Drake and Deposit/Hancock.

The Storm’s head coach brought up the fact that her team missed 18 free throws in the contest. “You just can’t leave 18 points at the line and expect to win,” said Whitbeck.
