Oxford to build new $75,000 police garage

OXFORD – After reviewing the pros-and-cons of a police garage, and receiving feedback from the community, Oxford officials voted to accept the proposal to build the garage, and began accepting bids for its construction.

According to a village document distributed during the information meeting, “The estimated cost of the 1,500 square foot facility is $75,000 and will be paid from the village reserve funds.”

The proposal to build the garage was passed on June 26, and according to Village of Oxford Mayor Terry Stark, the day after the vote, the village sent out bid requests to 13 different companies in hopes of receiving a fair price.

“Hopefully we’ll cast a wide net, get a bunch of people to bid on it, and then get a good price,” said Stark.

He said the bids will be opened on July 17, and at that point the village will likely decide on a winning bid.

“We don’t know if we got a good estimate or not, but we will find out,” said Stark.

In the original meeting at the Oxford Fire Department the speakers focused on why the village police department needs a garage, how they planned on paying for it, and where it would be located.
