NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley’s early lead helped the Storm defeat Oxford 16-4 Monday afternoon.

Oxford tallied two runs in the first inning but UV responded with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the advantage after one.

The Blackhawks tied the game, scoring another two runs in the second inning when Garrett Depew crossed the plate due to errors in the field. The errors came because of Depew stealing second base and the ball was overthrown twice.

Fast forward to three Oxford batters later, Josh Christian stepped up to the plate and singled to drive in Brad Beckwith from second base. Beckwith walked in his at-bat and advanced to second.

In the bottom of the frame, however, the Storm answered with three runs, taking the lead once again.

In their at-bats of the fourth inning, Unadilla Valley loaded the bases before Andrew Jackson’s plate appearance. Jackson smacked the first pitch of the at-bat to deep center field. His hit scored Colin Grant, Brandon Kneale and Drew Emrich. Jackson was able to round the bases in time to record a grand slam, making the score 13-4.

The Storm added another run in fourth inning and two in the fifth for the final score of 16-4. Adam Lamont touched all of the bags in fifth inning at-bat, recording the second home run hit by Storm player in the game.
