Tensions Flare As Blackhawks’ Season Ends In Elmira

ELMIRA – Elmira Notre Dame pressured the visiting Blackhawks nearly the entire game, resulting a first round 68-49 win for the home team and ending Oxford’s season.

The first eight minutes of play ended with a 22-14 advantage for the Crusaders. Elmira Notre Dame kept the same lead going into the intermission as the home team and Oxford both tallied 14 a piece in the second quarter.

The halftime leader for the Blackhawks was Chris Martin, scoring 11 in the 16 minutes played. Martin went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the first half. He continued his scoring in the third as he added the only six points for Oxford out of the break.

In the third quarter of a physical game between Oxford and host Elmira Notre Dame, one Crusaders’ player exited the game with an ejection and one Blackhawk ended up with a technical foul after some pushing and shoving occurred by both teams.

In that eight minutes, Elmira Notre Dame ran away with the game as they scored 22 in the quarter for the second time in the contest.

In the final quarter, Oxford players didn’t go down without a strong effort. Jason Davis hit two three-pointers in the fourth for 6 of his 11 scored in the stanza. Davis finished with 16 for the game.
