ENDWELL – All went according to plan this past weekend at Maine-Endwell’s Pete Matzke Invite for the Afton-Harpursville Crimson Knight, Matt Johnson.

As an established veteran runner within the Section IV Class D cross-country circuit, Johnson has earned the right to run with the big named schools within the section such as Owego and Maine-Endwell – the same two schools that also were in attendance at the Saturday, September 30, competition.

Johnson, serving as the only runner for Afton-Harpursville, placed fifth among the legion of Maine-Endwell and Owego Free Academy runners, finishing with a time of 17:29. Despite not taking the top spot, finishing first overall, Johnson’s performance sets himself in a nice category for a potential return to the NYSPHSAA State Championships once the Section IV State Qualifier comes around at the end of the month.
