Cops vs Coaches football game raises more than $1,000 for 2016 Shop with a Sheriff

OXFORD – To raise funds for the second annual Shop with a Sheriff event, the Chenango County Law Enforcement Association played a flag football game against coaches. More than $1,000 was raised.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputy Derrick Kruser, the Chenango County Law Enforcement Association President, said between 200 and 300 people attended the game.

“We are just starting to get going on planning for this year’s Shop with a Sheriff,” Kruser said. “Shop with a Sheriff is an event that we take a ton of pride in and means the world to us.”

Shop with a Sheriff is an event where children from throughout the county are paired with a member of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office to go holiday shopping. It is hosted by the Chenango County Law Enforcement Association.

In 2015, road patrol deputies took more than a dozen children Christmas shopping at the Norwich Walmart. The children selected for shopping at the event were selected by each school district from Chenango County.

Once paired with their deputies, they took to the aisles of the store, where each child was permitted to spend $100 on themselves and $50 on their family members for the holidays.
