State police: 8-year-old girl killed in Vernon house fire

VERNON (AP) ‐ State police officials say an 8-year-old girl was killed after she became trapped in her bedroom when a fire broke out in her family's central New York home over the weekend.

The Observer-Dispatch reports ( ) fire crews responded to a two-story home on West Seneca Street in Vernon around 3:50 p.m. Sunday and found it fully engulfed in flames.

The blaze was controlled in about an hour.

A neighbor reported that a family of seven lived in the house. Some of the children and their mother were transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse.
