Bail set at $25k for Cruz, despite DA’s Office’s higher  recommendation

NORWICH – The 23-year-old accused of assault and resisting arrest following Tuesday’s foot chase in the city was arraigned in Norwich City Court Wednesday morning.

Caden Cruz appeared before Judge James Downey for the purpose of bail.

Judge Downey read the information provided to him regarding the felony complaint against Cruz.

It is alleged that Cruz caused injure to a police officer, fought with the officer, and as a result, the officer had a facial laceration requiring eight stitches, Downey explained.

With regard to the misdemeanor charges against Cruz – including resisting arrest – Downey said that it’s alleged he did combat police and attempted to ‘hip toss’ an officer. 

It is further alleged that Cruz led a foot pursuit, pushed officers, and jumped a fence. 

Downey read the charge regarding the possession of a hypodermic instrument, which alleges Cruz was in possession of a needle with no legal documentation allowing him to possess such instrument.
