Oxford Legion makes donation to State Commander’s projects

OXFORD — On Sunday, November 1, the American Legion’s top state level officials were visiting Chenango County as part of their tour of all of New York’s sixty-two counties. The 2015-16 Department of New York State top officers are Commander James V. Yermas, State Auxiliary President Jan Mahoney, and State Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Detachment Commander Joseph L. SantaCrose Jr. who travel with an entourage of Legion dignitaries. The Chenango County American Legion hosted the visitation and their first stop was the Fort Hill Post 376 for a hearty brunch.

Fort Hill Commander Darlene Ardron was at Post 376 to greet NYS Commander Yermas and his guests. When the brunch concluded, Ardron presented the State Commander with a donation check in the amount of $100 for the Commander’s projects: Operation Comfort Warriors and the Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) is a program dedicated to meeting the needs of wounded, injured or ill military personnel by providing them with comfort items not usually supplied by the government. OCW ensures that patients at U.S. military hospitals and warrior transition units are given items like sweat suits, DVDs, puzzles, electronic devices, books, calling cards and more. OCW also provides larger items such as ping pong tables, entertainment centers, computers, kayaks and other recreational goods for use by wounded warriors in common areas.
