'Nitro Day'

SIDNEY – Norwich Police Department Officer Thomas Miller and his K-9 service dog, Nitro, will be at Houndstooth Bakery and Boutique in Sidney this Saturday for an event to give back to the community.

“It is truly amazing to see the relationship Officer Miller has with Nitro. He puts in so much of his free time to train Nitro, as Nitro is one of the top service dogs in the state,” said Cassie Vance of Houndstooth Bakery and Boutique.

The event will run on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I actually met Tom when he came in my shop seeking food and nutrition for his other German Shepherd. Nutrition is really important, especially for service dogs. So I ended up offering to pay for all of Nitro's food,” said Vance.

There will be cider and donuts offered in honor of the Halloween season. Officer Miller and Nitro will also be giving some short demonstrations at the event.

Children at the event will be able to interact and ask questions about Officer Miller and Nitro, before and after the demonstrations.

“I think the event will be good. Not so much around here, but sometimes the media – and people in general – paint police officers in a negative light. And what is really important is for the children to see how they protect you, and the work they put in, especially Tom and Nitro,” said Vance.

Houndstooth Bakery and Boutique is located at 87 Main Street in Sidney. All are welcome to attend the event.
